As part of our Communication Improvement Project I have posted a proposal discussion on our forum to address inactive administrators and bureaucrats. A news item on our Main Page guides wiki users to the discussion. Please review the proposal, and contribute your best ideas regarding this recurring issue. Thank you.
Hello, Gurmil. I was looking at the user log, and happened to notice that neither you nor Aethaeran have logged on since late September. Although I hope this is a seasonal issue, I am concerned that this might be one of those "near miss" events where activities do not overlap.
Please reply when you have the chance to let me know you are still active. I noticed a couple of minor vandalizing comments I wanted to pass onto you at some time. I cannot remove them as an editor. Thanks!
Note: I also posted a similar message on Aethaeran's wall
So, all i've been able to do is add photos :/ I cannot figure out hot to add to tables >:( For example, there is a mission item that counts as scrap paper. When i edit the scrap paper page and edit the item template, there are no ways to add another item to the table. The edit button is just for the recipe box. It shows the table i want to edit, but the text is just a preview, i can't edit it in any way. Am i missing something simple? There are only 2 items, and their only option is edit, and that does not let me add to the tables. I went in to source mode and just added the proper text, but that just made it appear at the end of the article. All the info under help is very basic things about text formatting and nothing that i need to know. If you could point me to a tutorial or something, i would be most grateful! Really wanted to contribute, but seems i am lacking the mental fortitude to do so :/
Ah, that's because most info about items, missions, etc. are being entered onto one page and then the database is being accessed to retrieve certain data for other pages.
So by adding the 'countas = Scrap Paper' parameter to the mission item, it will automatically be added to the table on the Scrap Paper page.
If you want to look into this database extension of MediaWiki, it's called Semantic MediaWiki and it is very powerful. In fact, I believe we could be using it even more effectively than we already are.
Also, as far as adding photos, I really appreciate the work you're doing. I know we need a lot more photos to fill out all the weapons/armor on the wiki, but I would suggest that you add the photos to the page by added the "image = <image name>" to the RecipeBox templates.
Ah, thanks for the tip, will make a page for this mission item, then.
As far as the photos go, thanks for the kind words, but is that really the preferred method? I remember seeing the photo like that on the 3D glasses page, and i thought it was silly in the recipe box. I just switched it on the Ghurka_Blade, guess its a matter of taste...
Perhaps it is a bit silly. I'm not sure there is a preferred method overall. Somehow the images being at the bottom like that just looked sort of off to me. I'll see if there is a more attractive way to display them. Plus, if an item doesn't have a recipe than it couldn't be placed in that template anyway.
Yar, that's not any good :/ Got an idea to try from reading you talk page, maybe it is because there is no item page to redirect? Think I will try a few things out later, those other 4 'counts as' must have something that the Lost Letter page does not. Thanks for the response!
Honestly, it would have updated on its own eventually. Not sure when the server pushes.. but it happens within 24 hours. To force the update immediately, I just clicked edit on the Scrap Paper page and then clicked Publish.
Huh, Its been days since I edited it, I checked it at 24 and 48 hours before i gave up. Even tried the 'purge' command to force an update on the scrap paper page. I figured you had to be an admin to make it update. Well, if you ever see me in the wasteland, feel free to turn on PVP to make me pay for bothering you ;) Thanks again, OCD is a bitch O_o
Thanks for saying hi! I use this wiki a lot since i started playing Fallen Earth, and I just noticed a page I can contribute to, so I thought I would sign up. I have past experience with html and css, so hopefully I won't mess anything up :P I take lots of screen shots too, so maybe I'll be able to add some images to articles. Thanks for all of your contributions!
The Mission: A House Divided (2) is incorrect as it lists the end point as 'Slammer Winstead' even thought the text correctly identifies it as 'Traveler Agent'. I tried hitting the "Edit" button, but I'm too much of a newb to do anything after that. Tutorial?
Is there a way to force an actual line clear? I don't mean like a br, but a line that will clear floats? For example; Sometimes if there is a thumbnail image before a topical headline, the text will appear to the left of the image. However, on occasion I'd like to force a clean line-break, to retain cleaner segmentation/layout flow. Is there a way to do this? I guess I need to find a quickstart guide for this lang.
I just figure that since you have css access, you would know if you have a simple object that impliments a css clear. That way I could use the object to clear the floats, rather than having to rely on seveal carriage returns to do the job.
I've been on a roll fixing several of the pages so that they properly nest, and would love to tweak some of the layouts in the process.
Howdy Gurmil, if I create updates for the css file, can you apply the changes to the locked css file? We'd like to enhance some of the templates and their layout, but need to add some classes to the css file for them to look really snazzy.
Heyas. the Wikia.css page is locked, which is going to prevent me from creating or editing the layout for certain templates. I want to create some new classes for the new Trainer style found in the game.
I asked Gurmil if he'll apply our additions to the css. I assume he can do so, and if this is the case, I'll whip up some more css. Is there specific things you were thinking? I do web design, so I'm happy to lend a hand to get it done.
